There is a fine line between...

the look of hope and the look of despair...

I am still holding out for the safe return of the 13 miners to their families....

The coal industry is a funny thing...our country needs coal for the energy plants to give us working TV's. Then the gov't puts restrictions on the quality of coal allowed to be used (means deeper mining to get high-carbon anthracite) and also limits surface mining (sometimes called "mountaintop removal" for the leveling of peaks into plateaus) which also means deeper mines.

Then there is the coal & safety industry issues. Coal money is down while the gov't says that the mines must meet certain safety requirements...

It sucks for the Coal industry to be stuck in the middle between the consumers who want energy at cheap prices and the gov't that wants certain environmental and safety standards...

In the end, it is the miners that lose when their plants shut down and their towns are ruined by unemployment and environmental issues like undrinkable water...

Oh Yoss, my heart is just breaking for those miners and their families...
I have been watching CNN, Fox and other stations all day and they keep showing what looks like a small white wooden church in the background... I think people have gathered there for what is surely very prayerful moments... I too am very prayerful for the miners and their families...

I just got an e-mail from my cousin:

" I am just writing in hopes that maybe I can ask you all to pray for the miners and families of the miners for a safe outcome. We need a miracle. In our area, we either know them directly or know somone who is family or friends of the Miners and their families."

It's so sad. A lot of the papers were printed during those hours between when they thought 12 had survived and realized that in fact only one had, so seeing the headlines as I pass by newspaper kiosks is heartbreaking. Those poor, poor families.
